• Hi!  My name is Michael and if you’ve arrived at this page then that means you are interested in learning more about Bellaire High School. At Bellaire, we strive every day to engage students in a learning environment that prepares them to flourish in their future endeavors. So let me take this opportunity to encourage you to spend some time on our website, to poke around, and to learn more about the educational opportunities and programs we offer our students.

Bellaire is committed to providing a rich learning environment through strong academics and robust extra-curricular programs.   The academic program at Bellaire includes a large and comprehensive AP program that achieves at levels not seen by other large urban public schools. Additionally, we have the oldest IB Diploma program in Texas. National Merit Finalists, Rhodes Scholars, perfect SAT & ACT scores - each of these are not uncommon here at 5100 Maple. Additionally this most recent year we Met Standard with the State of Texas while being the only Houston ISD comprehensive high school to earn all seven distinctions from the Texas Education Agency. Additionally, during our 65 years of existence, we have had state champions in multiple sports, artists and performers that are known across the world, and club leaders that impact both their local and global communities.

Our graduates treasure the All-American High School experience they receive while here for four years.  Our diversity of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and thoughts is what distinguishes us from all other high schools. We are big, we are loud, we are public and we are #CardinalProud.

My connection to the larger Bellaire school community runs deep.  After serving four years as an assistant principal at Bellaire, I was the principal of Pin Oak Middle School, one of the larger feeder middle schools within the Bellaire feeder pattern.  As I embark on my 8th year as Bellaire Principal, I remain committed to clear channels of communication and an open-door policy. I know that our families have a choice when it comes to high school and I never take for granted those that trust us with their children.  I hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn more about who we are, what we value, and how we can be a strong option for you and your family.

    Enjoy the day,

    Michael McDonough
