    Welcome to Health Science Technology Education!   Health Science Education consists of three courses and an Anatomy and Physiology Course.  The first year course Principles of Health Science is designed for 10th grade students. Health Science is the second course in Health Science Technology Education and is designed for 11th grade students.  The third course designed for 12th grade students is Practicum in Health Science.  The Anatomy and Physiology course is designed for students in the 11th grade.  All students and parents are expected to become familiar with the provisions of the district wide Code of Student Conduct, the rules and regulations adopted and implemented by Milby High School.  Students are also expected to adhere to the following classroom norms/rules as set by the instructor.  

    Course Descriptions:

    Principle of Health Science (One Credit)

    Textbook-Introduction to Health Science Technology-By Louise Simmers

    The Principles of Health Science provides an overview of the therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems of the health care industry.   To pursue a career in the health science industry, students should learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should recognize that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others. The health science industry is comprised of diagnostic, therapeutic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems that function individually and collaboratively to provide comprehensive health care. Students should identify the employment opportunities, technology and safety requirements of each system. Students are expected to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a health science career through further education and employment.  Professional integrity in the health science industry is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities. Students are expected to employ their ethical and legal responsibilities, limitations and understand the implications of their actions.

    Health Science (Two Credits)

    The Health Science course is designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. The course may be taught by different methodologies such as clinical rotation and career preparation learning. To pursue a career in the health science industry, students should recognize, learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should recognize that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others.  The health science industry is comprised of diagnostic, therapeutic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems that function individually and collaboratively to provide comprehensive health care. Students should identify the employment opportunities, technology, and safety requirements of each system. Students are expected to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a health science career through further education and employment. Professional integrity in the health science industry is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities.     Practicum in Health Science (Two Credits)

    Textbook- Diversified Health Occupations- By: Louise Simmers

    Practicum is designed to give students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience. To pursue a career in the health science industry, students should learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should recognize that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others.  The health science industry is comprised of diagnostic, therapeutic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems that function individually and collaboratively to provide comprehensive health care. Students should identify the employment opportunities, technology, and safety requirements of each system. Students are expected to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a health science career through further education and employment.  Professional integrity in the health science industry is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities. Students are expected to employ their ethical and legal responsibilities and limitations and understand the implications

    Classroom Rules:

    ·         Be on time to class

    ·         Be prepared with class supplies and an open mind FOR LEARNING

    ·         Respect one another

    ·         No Cell phone usage without the teacher’s permission

    ·         No electronic devices

    ·         No eating without the teacher’s permission

    Consequences for violation of Norms:

    ·         First offense-verbal warning

    ·         Second offense – contact parents/detention

    ·         Third offense-Referral to Assistant Principal (AP)

    Note: Students out of uniform, cell phone and electronic device offenses will be immediately sent to the Assistance Principal.

    A-90-100

    B-80-89

    Late work:

    Late work will only be accepted one class day after the due date. Twenty points will be deducted from all late work turned in after the due date.

    Make-up work:

    When a student is absent, he or she has at least five school days to make up his/her work after returning to class.
