How to Apply

  • Thank you for your interest in Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions.  

     

    Application process period for 2020-2021 is now open! The deadline to apply is December 6, 2019 for Phase 1. 

    Due to the volume of applications received during Phase 1, we will NOT be accepting applications for Phase 2 or 3.  

     

    Applications can be submitted both online and on paper. You can apply to a total of 10 transfer types with a limit of five (5) Magnet Programs, including Vanguard.  Applications will be accepted starting September 27, 2019 and must be submitted no later than December 6, 2019 for guaranteed consideration in the first round of applicants. Applications received after December 6, 2019 will be processed only on a space-available basis.
     
    • All applicants must partake in the DeBakey Math Readiness Assessment in order to complete and qualify their application.  Assessment scores will not be used in matrix calculations.
    • Students must have a minimum matrix score of "80" in order to qualify.
    • Students must also complete Algebra 1 by August 2020 for enrollment in DeBakey.  If Algebra 1 is not completed by 8th grade, student must complete DeBakey's summer Algebra Camp.
     
     
     
    DeBakey High School falls under the "Separate and Unique School" (SUS) guidelines, and, as such, we are required to only admit students who live within HISD boundaries. We regularly conduct investigations to ensure that our applicants, as well as our current students, are in compliance with the SUS residency guidelines.
