• Giftend and Talented Neighborhood  Program
The Vanguard Neighborhood programs are designed to meet the needs of G/T students in grades K-12, who excel in general intellectual ability in combination with creative/productive thinking and/or leadership ability. It provides a differentiated curriculum by modifying the depth, complexity, and pacing of the general school program. TEA requires that all kindergarten students have the opportunity to apply for Vanguard Neighborhood during the fall semester.
If your child is already in the Vanguard Neighborhood Program, there is no reason to apply again. Once students are accepted into the Vanguard Neighborhood Program, they remain in the program throughout their entire tenure in the district. If a student applies to the Neighborhood Vanguard Program and does not meet the criteria to qualify, he/she may apply again the next year, when a  new process will begin. You may not apply twice within one year for the Vanguard Neighborhood Program.
The Advanced Academics Department central administration office has developed a criteria for admission, which is based on the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.  The Vanguard coordinator and a Vanguard committee conduct the admission meetings.
