Ms. Susan Monaghan began her career in HISD at Lockhart Elementary as a 3rd grade teacher. After nine years in HISD, she transferred to Alief ISD for the next five years. Ms. Monaghan returned to HISD in 1995 as a Middle School Counselor at The Rice School. She was later promoted to an assistant principal at the same school. In 2001 Ms. Monaghan became the Assistant Principal at West University Elementary. Three years later she was named the Principal at Lovett Elementary where she remained for the next six years. While at Lovett Ms. Monaghan was named 2008-2009 West Region Principal of the Year and the school showed tremendous growth moving from acceptable to exemplary. Ms. Monaghan just completed her fifth year as the Principal of Pin Oak Middle School. This past year she served as a Lead Principal for Johnston and Ortiz Middle Schools.
Ms. Monaghan received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Michigan University and her Masters in School Counseling from University of Houston – Clear Lake. In addition, she received a Masters in School Administration from University of Saint Thomas. Ms. Monaghan’s strength in leadership, instruction, building teacher capacity, and team capacity across departments will help move Westbury High School toward strong student learning results. The energy and passion she brings to education will serve as a catalysis for keeping learning at the center of all conversations in the Westbury School Community.
Ms. Monaghan has one son, Thomas Monaghan who recently graduated from the University of Mississippi.
