A message to Ms. Cornelia Davis, CTE Finance – Dual Credit Instructor,
from Martez Jones, Class of 2013, dated May 15, 2015:
    Hello Ms. Davis,

How are you doing? This is Martez Jones. I had taken 3 courses with you while I was at Westbury. I just wanted to let you know that you have been a huge impact on my life. I never really understood the importance of education until I was in your accounting class my senior year. I played around too much my first couple of years at Westbury and you shaped my attitude towards education just by you always being serious and letting me know that when I step foot in your class, it is time to quit playing around and work hard. Because of that and my interest in Accounting senior year, I am studying Accounting here at Sam Houston State University and have achieved a lot within my two years here. If you don't mind, I would like to hear back from you soon, please.

We have a 5-year program here where we can get our BA in four years and get our Masters in one year. So, I will be doing that. After that, I will meet the requirements to sit for my CPA exam (with 150 hours) and I plan on practicing public accounting for a big four accounting firm after earning my CPA or during the process. Thanks to your help in that Accounting course, I have breezed through my first two Accountings (Principles of Financial and Managerial) with A's and will start the more challenging ones this upcoming school year. I will be entering my junior year here at Sam Houston with a 3.74 gpa and I have joined quite a few organizations and found great friendships that continue to push me towards my goals. I am a part of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), the Sam Houston Honors College, and a campus ministry called Campus Outreach.

    Thank you

    Martez Jones
