KALEIDOSCOPE IS CURRENTLY FULL FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEARGreetings Parents/Guardians!
Welcome back to another exciting year of school at Emerson Elementary! We are proud to have Kaleidoscope returning for a second year of FREE after-school programing. KALEIDOSCOPE will be offered to a select number of students/families. Our goal is to provide our students and parents with a safe, free, educationally enriching alternative to after school care. Students will have an opportunity to empower and grow their creative nature through TEKS based fine-art enrichment opportunities provided by the renowned Young Audiences program. Participants will also have an opportunity to participate in a variety of enrichment activities run by Emerson teachers that allow students to explore a variety of passions and develop their ability to see the world differently- ready to take on all the challenges that life may present!
KALEIDOSCOPE will run Monday-Thursday, from 2:45-5:45, Friday from 2:45-5:00, beginning Wednesday, September 20, 2017 during all calendar school days and work with students/families in grades 1- 5. This after-school program will be the ONLY after-school care option offered on Emerson’s campus, so please make sure and read all information carefully if you are interested in applying! Due to the intense nature of enrichment activities that will be provided, only a select number of students/families will be accepted.
The three parts of the program are as follows:
Part I: Snack/homework help time (2:45-3:30)
Part II: Enrichment activities provided by Emerson staff (3:30-4:30)
Examples: cooking, drama, yoga, dance
Part III: Young Audiences TEKS based fine-art sessions (4:30-5:30)
Examples: recycled art, hip-hop dance, jazz, stage makeup, Capoerira dance, African drumming, puppetry, photography, screen printing, advertising, and many more!
PART IV: FREE DINNER PROGRAM and student pick up (5:45-6:00)
Friday: snack and 1 enrichment activity from 3:30-4:30, pick up at 5:00 p.m.
For students who will eventually be involved in extended day tutoring, modifications to their KALEIDESCOPE schedule and attendance expectations will be made.For more information about our exciting year, please contact the program director, Ms. Lauren Moss at 713-917-3630. If you are interested in applying, please fill out ALL INFORMATION in the attached application and turn it in directly to Ms. Moss at the front office by Friday, September 15. Please DO NOT send it back to your child’s teacher. Acceptance letters and phone calls will be made on Monday and Tuesday, September 18 and 19. The first official start day will be Wednesday, September 20, 2017. The MANDATORY parent meeting will be held on Friday, September 22 from 5:00-6:00 p.mThere are specific attendance and behavior expectations as well as enrollment agreements for students to remain enrolled in KALEIDOSCOPE.
