Name That Book/UIL
If books are one of your best friends and your memory is sharp, then Name That Book has your name written all over it! Travis forms two teams of seven each to compete in HISD’s Name That Book Competition. Both the K-2 and 3-5 teams read from a given list of 35 books to recall titles from a given quote at competition. Tryouts are held in the Fall and there are always some great stories on the lists. Contact Theresa Sims for more information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) is an academic competition open to all students. Ready Writing, Solo Acting, Spelling, and Number Sense are just a few events to compete in. Students who are interested in participating will fill out a form that will be sent home in the fall. The note will indicate which meets Travis will compete in. We are limited in the number of students that can participate in each event and our hope is to provide an opportunity for all students to attend one of the three meets this year. Contact Sara Lytle for more information at email@example.com.
The Travis Shakespeare Players is a troupe of third, fourth, and fifth graders who meet after school every Thursday for two hours on the Travis Stage. Enrollment is full for the 2016 school year and will be open again in May for the 2017 school year. Auditions are not held, but students must be fluent readers and should be ready to savor the poetry of the language and to learn the stories Shakespeare told through theatre. The young actors read, study, and perform plays by William Shakespeare, and absorb the history of the period in which he lived and wrote.
