Degrees and Certifications:
Krysten Kuo, Counselor
Hello! My name is Krysten Kuo (pronounced like Quo) and I am the school counselor at Raul Martinez Elementary! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. After working full-time in PR, I felt a strong calling to serve children, which had been a long-time passion of mine. I taught first grade for several years and, upon receiving my master’s degree in counseling education, then became an elementary school counselor. I am grateful to be doing what I love and find so much joy in working with the students at our school.
My role on campus is to help address the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of our students. I am an advocate for our students and families and work closely with students, administration, teachers, parents, and our community on a daily basis. It is my goal for the school year that every single one of our students knows who I am and how to access help when needed. An important part of my job is to help create a positive school culture where our students feel safe and encouraged in order to learn to the best of their ability and to be successful. To that end, we have a zero tolerance policy for bullying on our campus and this is something that our staff and students are educated about throughout the entire year.
The services I provide include classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. Classroom guidance lessons are aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards and cover a wide range of topics such as character education traits, career development, and peer relations. Small group counseling provides an opportunity for students dealing with similar events to come together and work through their feelings and emotions in a safe environment. Lastly, individual counseling is provided to students who need someone to talk to on a more regular basis (although this is not long-term).
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I would love the opportunity to speak or meet with you so please do not hesitate to contact me at (713) 671-3680 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
