Degrees and Certifications:
Language and Literature
Year 2 (7I)
Teaching Seventh Grade Language and Literature will be a new experience for me, but I am very excited to have the opportunity. I am also extremely thrilled that I am getting to have the same students from last year, along with Ms. Gil’s students and those new to Tanglewood Middle School. Now, a little about me.
Believe it or not, I am a native Houstonian. I grew up in Jacinto City and graduated from Galena Park Senior High (on the east side of Houston). I knew early on that I wanted to be a teacher, but there was no money in my family to pay for college. So, I joined the United States Navy and built torpedoes. Yes, really. It was an amazing experience, and it paid for my college.
Finally, I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Basically, that means I was an elementary teacher certified to teach grades 1-8. In 2012 I earned my Master’s Degree from Western Governor’s University in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have spent twenty of my teaching years as an elementary teacher, mostly in fourth grade teaching reading and writing. But I’ve also taught third and fifth grade, as well as a Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth grade science lab. I had a few life changes, so I decided to move to middle school, and I just love it! To sum up, I’ve taught students in grades Pre-K through 8th. And no, I’m not planning on moving to high school so that I can say I’ve taught every grade level. I love being here at Tanglewood Middle School and I am very excited about working with you this school year.
