Year 1 (6S)

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a great opportunity for an internship at National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences was presented.  Laboratory work at the Neurosciences Division became available including cultivating nerve cells and studying neurological behavior in mice.  A graduate assistant position became available at the University of Central Arkansas where a Masters in Science was obtained in Health Sciences.  After working as a scientist in the pharmacological industry, I soon found a calling to teach after spending my lunchbreaks teaching students in high-needs schools how to read.  Five years of teaching in Oklahoma schools was an addition to the opportunity to be a lead for Oklahoma Education Resource in 7th and 9th grade open source curriculum.  Another opportunity, involved being one of the seven teachers chosen to assist in writing test questions for the new state test implemented just last year.  Coming to Houston to teach at an International Baccalaureate school has turned out to be one of the best decisions made for a career - developing bright minds for a future investment of a better tomorrow.
