  • John Magalhaes is a graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and New School University in New York City. He holds a B.F.A in Musical Theatre and a certification in Creative Arts Therapy. He is currently working for HoustonISD at Charles H. Milby High School as the Theatre Arts Teacher and Director. His acting credits include numerous tours with Vital Theatre Company in the United States, Off Broadway, and even working with some broadway veterans like Meghan Duffy and George Salazar. While acting all over nyc, Mr. Magalhaes also studied Stagecraft and Tech theatre with different companies like Vital Theatre Company and Axis Theatre Company where he helped build their full set that was featured at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Mr. Magalhaes moved to Houston in 2015 and started working in theatre right away. He started to work with Queensbury Theatre as a teaching artist and set builder. His first acting credit in Houston was Whistle Down the Wind at Queensbury Theatre. He continues to work at Queensbury Theatre and their educational division, The Tribble School For The Performing Arts. His passion for theatre and teaching led him to become the Theatre Arts Dricertor at Charles H. Milby High School.

With a very small theatre program in place at Milby, Mr. Magalhaes' goal was to make it grow and be known. In doing so,  Mr. Magalhaes has established a well rounded theatre program. He offers multiple classes in Acting, Musical Theatre, Stagecraft and Technical Theatre. He started with only 100 students in the theatre program and it has grown in the past two years to 350 plus students. In 2016, he was a finalist for Rookie Teacher of the year. In 2018, Mr. Magalhaes put on Milby's first Musical in over 50 years and participated in The Tommy Tune Awards. Mr. Magalhaes cares about giving his students all the opportunities that are out there. He doesn't just teach theatre but lessons that his students can use in the real world.
