With an educational background in history and social sciences, Tanglewood Middle School has provided a wonderful opportunity to support and develop young minds by encouraging them to understand the world around them at a local and global level. My goal and the focus of an IB school is to instill a passion for inquiry that will lead to life long learning. Tanglewood is an IB culture, and students are encouraged to strengthen their understanding of how they impact each other and the greater community through their thoughts and actions. Through reflection, knowledge and inquiry with research, instruction and team building, the teacher is there to guide students to make positive and deliberate decisions about how to grow as young adults.
Following the foundational year of World Cultures, the focus of 7th grade is Texas History. While we certainly have a global context in our learning, we have a closer examination of Texas and its surrounding environment. The fall will focus on the natural environment of Texas and its early inhabitants, while we will focus on more modern Texas next semester.
