Mrs. Gwen Pauloski

Dear Falcon,

Welcome! I am happy you are part of this class.

My name is Mrs. Pauloski (Puh-lah-skee), and I will be your English I teacher this year. I am new to East Early College High School just as you are. I am beginning my 16th year of classroom teaching, and I've been working in public education since 1991! I have taught social studies and English Language Arts at the middle school and high school level, mostly in Houston ISD.

I was born in Stephenville, Texas, and then we moved around quite a bit. My family lived in Lima, Peru, when I was four, and we lived in Oaxaca, Mexico, during the next year. We settled in Houston when I was seven, and I went to school here through high school graduation. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Economics from University of Texas at Austin then I moved to Boston to earn my Master in Public Policy from Harvard University. I lived in Seattle for seven years, earning my teaching certification and teaching social studies. I moved back home to Houston in 1995 and began teaching in Houston ISD the next year.

I married my husband in June 2016. Between us, we have four wonderful kids (ages 15 - 22). My mom and my oldest sister's family live here in Houston, while my dad and stepmom live in Florida, and my younger sister lives in Montana with her husband and three young sons. My husband's family comes from Indiana.

I work very hard on lesson design and learning about my craft (both my subject area and the tools of teaching). I am finishing up my doctoral degree at the University of Houston, so much of my spare time is spent writing and reading for my dissertation. I'm kind of a home body (especially now!). I love jazz music (especially hard bop), movies, and all kinds of books. I enjoy cooking, taking walks (especially on the beach), and watching live competition shows (like "The Voice" and "So You Think You Can Dance").

I look forward to learning more about you and working with you this year.

Sincerely,

Gwen Pauloski
