• IB and the Magnet program

The Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) is a grant that provides eligible local educational agencies grants for use in Magnet Schools. Fondren Middle School is one of the Magnet Schools in Houston ISD that will benefit from this remarkable grant.

A magnet program is a program in a public school that usually focuses on a special area of study, such as science, the performing arts, or career education. A magnet school is an entire school with a special focus. These programs and schools are designed to attract students from across a district. Fondren’s magnet program is the International Baccalaureate, or in short, the IB.

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
