  • Communities in Schools (CIS) partners with Sutton Elementary. The mission of CIS is to provide and coordinate student assistance services at the school campus in order to best meet the physical and emotional needs of at-risk students and to empower these students to remain in school. Communities in Schools also help families with basic needs such as utilities, food, and clothing.

CIS works with other partners to help provide these services. Currently there are (10) ten partnerships actively working with the students at Sutton Elementary.

Some of these partnerships include Houston/Galveston Institute (HGI), Christ Church Cathedral (CCC), Memorial-Hermann/Sharpstown Clinic, Siemer Grant program/ Family Houston, Vison Service Plan (VSP), Houston Food Bank - Backpack Buddy and Teachers Aid programs, and the Houston Furniture Bank.

CIS partners with Family Houston on a Siemer Grant for the Houston Family Stability Program administered by United way. It provides comprehensive case management to students and their families who are identified as being “at-risk” for a disruptive school move and linking families to community resources and service providers.

The Houston/Galveston Institute offers therapy and consultation services for all age groups including individuals, couples, families, and groups and for a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal problems.

For more information concerning the services that CIS provides, please call 713-778-3400 and ask for Ms. Morales.

  • Good afternoon,

Thank you for continuing to be a part of the Backpack Buddy Program this year. We have all had to adapt to many changes very abruptly and we are moving forward to make the best of it. The Backpack Buddy Program and the Nutrition Education department thought this would be a great time to bring students and their families together by introducing small cooking videos at home that they can utilize with items from their bag. We hope this brings a new insight to nutrition education, cooking, food budgeting, and provides the opportunity to nutritious food. Please share this video with your staff, students, and their parents so they can create nutritious memories!

    Thank you!!
