Burbank Middle School is one of 28 middle schools in HISD that enjoys having Project Explore on campus. This excellent program is designed to help middle school students find their way through the educational process. Project Explore connects students with information and experiences which open their minds to options for their future. Some activities are one on one advisory sessions and excursions to job sites or universities. Students meet with their advisor in small groups at least once a week to discuss any questions they may have as well as plan future activities. Please visit the Project Explore site to learn more about the activities available to all participants.
Enrollment in the program is limited to about 25 students in each grade level per year. There is an application process which involves not only the student, but his or her parents or guardians. Once enrolled, a student may participate in the program throughout his or her middle school years. Additionally, students may join in any grade level, provided there is space available.
Our Project Explore advisor is Fernanda Garza. A graduate of the University of Houston, she is currently working towards her master's degree in Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University. She is fully bilingual and truly enjoys helping students understand and start making their way to their true potential. If you would like to join Project Explore or have any questions about the program, you can reach her by phone at 713-696-2720 ext. 258 or via email at Fernanda Garza
