Hello. I am Cory Gibson. Welcome to the Art of Thinking for tenth graders. This is my second year at Jack Yates high school. I most recently taught AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). Prior to joining the AVID team in HISD, my last 19 years teaching were in Fort Bend ISD. I previously taught elementary music. I have also taught choir, piano, and AP Music Theory on both middle and high school levels. I also serviced 22 campuses as the district accompanist.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Oklahoma City University (B.A. Music). I will be graduating in May 2024 from Boston University with a Masters in Music Education. My hope is to complete a doctoral program in Ethnomusicology (Rice University).

This year I will be a candidate for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. This will begin my 28th year in education. 

My favorite book is "Pedagogy Of The Oppressed" (P. Freire)
