is a recent alumna of the University of Houston, where she acquired a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her undergraduate career, Ms. Pittman was the project manager for the STEM RISE program, a partnership Jack Yates High School and the University of Houston have cultivated to bring unique hands-on experiences within college laboratories to students at Jack Yates, interested in a career field of STEM. For her first year of teaching, she taught 9th grade biology at Lamar High School in Houston ISD, after she had completed her student teaching experience with teachHOUSTON the previous year… in the exact same classroom! Her passion for education revolves around the creative implementation of social and emotional learning into standardized curriculum and community building in the classroom. She plans on furthering her education next year at Prairie View A&M University, to explore other areas of the education system that are in dire need of representation and progressive policy. Ms. Pittman has learned a lot in her first year of teaching and is elated to be able to return to the classroom, now teaching the Art of Thinking at Jack Yates High School.
