AP Testing for Homeschool, Virtual, or Independent Study Students
Homeschooling AP Exam Registration Information

If your child is homeschooled, attends a virtual school, or goes to a school that doesn’t offer AP Exams, they can still take the test—but they’ll need to find a school that offers AP testing to outside students.

The College Board encourages schools that give AP Exams to help students in this situation.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Find a School
Use the AP Course Ledger to search for schools in your area that offer the AP courses your child is taking.
  2. Contact the School
Call or email the school’s AP coordinator to ask if they allow outside students to test there. They will explain their policies and next steps.
  3. Complete the HISD Homeschool student AP Exam Request Form
  4. Plan Ahead
Each school sets its own deadlines and rules for students who don’t attend their campus. Be sure to reach out early—some deadlines may be months before the AP Exam.
