On Friday, February 12, 2021, the National Junior Honor Society Luther Burbank Chapter had its annual Induction Ceremony. It took place in person in the auditorium, following the CDC guidelines for social distancing and the use of facial masks. It was broadcast via TEAMS so that all parents and friends of our members could virtually participate of the proceedings.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, the ceremony began with an encouraging message from our Principal, Mr. David Knittle. He remarked on the fact that in spite of the current pandemic, our NJHS members are learning and performing with academic excellence. After his remarks, the ceremony began with Ms. Vasquez and Ms. Mancillas speaking about the selection process and how significant it is for a student to be elected as a member of the society. This was followed by the introduction of the new officers, who each in turn spoke of the qualities a NJHS member must have. As is traditional, they lit the candles of Service, Citizenship, Leadership, Character, and Scholarship.
The Officers for 2020-2021 are as follows:
Our new members then took the pledge and received the symbols of their membership. They in turn signed the Book of Memories which records the names of all members when they are inducted. Our most sincere congratulations to our new members and their proud families!
Mr. Sergio Luviano, our technology teacher, created a video of the ceremony which we have uploaded below. Enjoy!
