THIS IS COUNSELOR APPRECIATION WEEK

SCHOOL COUNSELORS WEEK

School Counselors

Back at the beginning of the 20th century, Frank Parsons developed the idea that if you match careers, skills, and personality, the individual will experience a high degree of job satisfaction as well as success. How to find that wonderful match between an individual and an occupation is the origin of the career counseling of today.  Career counseling is an essential function of school counselors.

School counselors are the quintessential support group in a school! Each day, counselors work with students to address specific issues or challenges that are affecting their social and academic success, and they do so in a very practical way. They work both with individuals as well as small groups to find solutions to problems or to disseminate information. Whether it's helping students investigate possible careers, creating specific student schedules, or talking with a troubled student, school counselors are vital members of the education team!

Counselors work hard to provide students with the tools they need to find their way in the future. Some of the things counselors do are:

  • Analyze each student's data to identify strengths and areas of growth.
  • Use that analysis to schedule students in the courses that are best suited to each of their needs.
  • Bridge any communication gap that may exist between administration, teachers, students, and parents at any given time.
  • Provide information about careers as well as help agencies that are available for parents and students.
  • Maintain student records.
  • Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies that could provide additional support.

We are lucky to have an Outstanding Counseling Team at Burbank Middle School who go above and beyond the call of duty. Each grade level has its own counselor to make sure that our students are well taken care of every day.

Here is our fabulous team!!!
