Hispanic Heritage Month- Las Aguilas de Oro
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
LAS AGUILAS DE ORO
Las Aguilas de Oro were very busy during the Hispanic Heritage Month. They were very much in demand to provide that special touch that folkloric music and dance provides to a celebration. Our students were invited to participate in two events by two very different groups.
The PTO at North Houston Early College High School were holding a "Loteria Night" to raise funds for the school. They wanted to have a special treat for their parents and asked if anyone knew of a musical group they could invite to participate in their event. Gisselle Gonzalez, who is currently a student at NHEC, recommended Las Aguilas de Oro to the PTO. She was a dancer with Las Aguilas when she was a student at Burbank!

Then Principal Knittle received an email from Ms. Tina de Luna, who works for United Airlines' customer service at Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). She was letting him know about the Diversity Celebration IAH that was going to happen on October 17, 2023. Ms. de Luna remembered that Las Aguilas de Oro had performed there in 2019, and she was wondering if it was possible for them to come back this year. Mr. Knittle was happy to oblige, so Las Aguilas de Oro found themselves in the airport on that Tuesday morning. They were accompanied by Dr. Velasquez, Ms. Rodarte, and Ms. Ledesma. We were also lucky to have the following parents serve as chaperones: Ms. Jeannette Singu-Acosta, Ms. Iris Lineth Ponce, and Mr. CresencioTrejo.

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, Burbank Middle School will have the Fall Family Night. There will be a procession to celebrate the traditional "Dia de los Muertos" followed by a performance by Las Aguilas de Oro. In addition, there will be tables from neighboring schools, artists, and organizations. This event will take place between 5:30 and 7:00 pm in the patio in front of our school on 315 Berry Rd. You are all invited to attend!
