Hilton Americas Houston Skyline Renovation

Hilton Americas Houston Skyline Renovation

Students began the project by first documenting and researching on the existing Skyline floor of the Hilton Americas Hotel where the renovation would take place. This research included 3D modeling of the existing space, as well as creating a physical scale model. From this initial documentation, students were then tasked with developing a main architectural idea or “concept” that was based off of their research. These concepts were also keeping in mind the client’s need of the space; renovating their Skyline level space to function as a work area during the day for their business travelers, while at nighttime becoming a type of leisure space. Students needed to develop schemes that would allow for a flexibility of use for a single space. From the students’ concepts, they next explored via sketching by hand and computer 3D modeling of their ideas. After working with their instructor for several design iterations and improvements, they arrived to their final designs. Students had to maintain a strong self-drive and vigor in order to achieve a high quality project. Selections of the most effective designs were made by the instructor and then presented directly to Hilton by the students. This gave students a real-world factor to consider as part of their process; they must take their architectural proposals, and explain to their client why their designs are strong, creative resolutions for the client’s need.
