NEW POLICY ON TREATS FOR STUDENTS

Houston Independent School District

A. “Squatty” Lyons Elementary School

September 26, 2019

NEW POLICY ON TREATS FOR STUDENTS:

EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2019:    Due to safety concerns and to maximize instructional time, Lyons Elementary will only allow students to share NONEDIBLE birthday treats with peers at the end of the school day.  If parents would like to provide treats to classmates in honor of their child’s birthday, treats must be nonedible (no food – no cakes, cupcakes, candy, gum, etc.).  Examples of nonedible treats consist of pencils, colors, coloring books or goodie bags with small trinkets such as plastic rings and stickers.  The treats can be sent with the student upon arrival to school and will be distributed at the end of the school day before dismissal.
