Updates for 2022-2023 School Year
Dear Furr Community,
With just a few more weeks to go until school starts, we are preparing for students’ return to classrooms on Monday, August 23rd.
As you may know, all Houston ISD schools will return to 100 percent in-person instruction this fall. That means all students must report to campus, as a virtual learning option will not be offered.
We are providing face-to-face instruction because we know that being in school is critically important for our students' growth and success. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in-person learning has not been associated with substantial community transmission throughout the pandemic. Just last week, the CDC issued new guidelines urging schools to fully reopen this fall.
As we prepare for the coming school year, Houston ISD is working in partnership with health and education officials to ensure a safe return to in-person learning. With that in mind, Houston ISD will maintain the following protocols:
- Urging students, staff, and essential visitors to stay home when sick
- Providing masks upon request and allowing them to be worn in schools and buildings but not requiring them per state mandate
- Keeping plexiglass dividers in place
- Cleaning and disinfecting all schools and buildings nightly
- Limiting visitation to essential visitors with pre-scheduled appointments
More detailed information will be provided in the coming weeks as we release our back-to-school plan for the coming year.
As you know, Houston ISD's Communicable Disease Plan — a living document that governs health and safety protocols during public health emergencies — will be formally deactivated on August 2nd. However, the Communicable Disease Plan Committee, a cross-functional team that developed the plan, will continue meeting regularly to monitor local conditions and public health guidance. Please be assured we will notify you if there are any changes.
Our Meet the Teacher is scheduled for Thursday, August 19th. More information will be provided as the day approaches. You may review this year's bell schedule, dress code, and other resources under our resources tab.
I hope you are enjoying a safe and restful summer and look forward to seeing all Furr students on Monday, August 23rd.
