Kinder HSPVA named 2019 Landmark Award finalist

The new Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts building has been named a Houston Business Journal 2019 Landmark Award finalist.

The annual awards program recognizes impressive real estate projects that make a significant impression on the Houston landscape and help sculpt the look, feel, and image of the city.

“Kinder HSPVA is truly an impressive facility that is matched only by the high caliber of student artists who hone their creative passions there every day,” HISD Chief Operating Officer Brian Busby said. “This award is well deserved.”

Built as part of HISD’s 2012 Bond Program, the $96 million five-story facility opened in downtown Houston in January and features a dramatic main entrance with two-story glass windows, an 800-seat main theater with a balcony, multiple secondary theaters, writing labs, dance and music studios, a fitness center, ample practice and performance space, and two levels of underground parking.

Winners of this year’s awards will be announced at a special 25th Anniversary Landmark Awards Dinner on April 11.

Kinder HSPVA is one of six schools that officially opened on Jan. 7, bringing the Bond Program to more than 85 percent completion.
