FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What time does school start? – School starts at 8:00 am (not at 8:30 am like the larger schools). Students are expected to be in their class by 8:00 am daily when instruction begins. Repeatedly tardy students will be given detention and/or put on a growth plan. (This does not apply to students that are late due to HISD transportation.)
What kind of backpack can we use? – You may use any type of backpack as long as it is appropriate for the school setting. We do not have lockers, so please ensure they are not too large.
Do we have free dress? – No, we have a dress code that all students must follow. Please click the link above to learn more. The dress code will be enforced daily and will be reviewed with students on the first day of school. You will not be given clothes to wear and will serve after-school detention for failure to follow the dress code. PTO will be selling HSLJ Shirts & Polos on August 24th – 25th.
What supplies should we buy? Is there a supply list? – High school does not have a supply list for all students. You will learn what you need from your teacher on the first day of school. Please bring at least one notebook and pen for the first day of school.
When do we get our schedules? – All students will be able to see their schedules in PowerSchool before school starts. We will have printed copies available during laptop pickup as well. Schedules are not finalized until a few days before the start of school.
Once I get my schedule, can I change my classes? – Students can request a schedule change beginning on the 3rd day of school, not any sooner. Please note that not all requests will be approved since most classes have limited space. We do our absolute best to build your schedule based on the classes available and ensure that you are taking what you need to graduate. More information will be shared once school starts.
When do I get my laptop? – We are strongly suggesting you come in the week before school starts. Laptop pickup dates are noted above.
When do I find out what bus route I have? – HISD transportation will either call or mail you that information in the next few weeks. Reminder that not getting on the bus or bus issues is not an excuse for missing school - it will be considered an unexcused absence. You should have a method of transportation other than the bus if issues arise.
