Free flu shots
See when flu shots will be given at your location
Influenza (“flu”) is a contagious disease that spreads around the country every year, usually between October and May. Flu is caused by influenza viruses and is spread mainly by coughing, sneezing, and close contact. Anyone can get the flu, but people working in schools or other closed environments are more exposed than others and therefore more likely to get infectious diseases. Flu strikes suddenly and can last several days.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone receive the influenza vaccine regardless of age (after 6 months of age), since it is the primary method of flu prevention. The Texas Vaccine Institute (TVI) will provide the influenza vaccine to all HISD employees this fall free of charge and courtesy of Cigna. Please note that there is no live virus in the injectable flu vaccine; therefore, receiving the vaccine cannot cause the flu. Visit the CDC’s website here.
For more information on the influenza vaccine for HISD employees, see this flyer.
