Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality for All scholarship 2020

HISD seniors are encouraged to apply for the 2020 Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality for All scholarships, which are in the amounts of $1,000 and $500. A 200-word typed essay is required for the $1,000 scholarship.

To be eligible to apply, students and their parents, a family member, or a friend must:

  • Attend 3 out of 4 Fall Community Outreach Events and Activities
  • Attend 3 out of 4 Spring Community Outreach Events and Activities
  • Attend 2 out of 3 Summer Community Outreach Events and Activities

There are no exceptions to attending the monthly Community Outreach Events and Activities. We must be able to build a relationship with scholarship candidates and their families.

Students applying for the $500 scholarship do not have to write a 200-word essay, but they must attend the monthly Community Outreach Events and Activities. Students must contact a corporation, business, school district, college, non-profit organization or group in reference to their scholarship.

All students must first register their information on SAFE Diversity at Eventbrite. There will be a SAFE Diversityapplication to fill out at the Outreach events only.

The typed 200-word essay must be emailed to by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020.

 The 2020 Diversity, Inclusion and Equality for All $1,000 scholarship winners will be announced at the SAFE Diversity Community Outreach Event on Saturday, April 4, 2020.

Scholarship recipients and their parents will be recognized and awarded their scholarship certificates at the Sixth Annual Blue Carpet Scholarship Awards Gala on Saturday, May 2, 2020, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, 15700 JFK Blvd., Houston, 77032. Please note that this is a black tie event.

All applicants have until August 31, 2020, to submit to SAFE Diversity their enrollment paperwork, including where they are attending college.
