Read Houston Read volunteers are finalists for award

The Elementary Literacy Team is proud to announce that Read Houston Read Volunteers at Cunningham Elementary were finalists for the Jean Davis Myers Volunteer Service of the Year Award. The group of volunteers were honored at the VIPS Recognition Reception last Thursday at Hattie Mae White. Twenty Four Read Houston Read Volunteers share their time and love of literacy with 50 Cunningham ES students on a weekly basis. The volunteers have been serving these students for 3 years. They are dedicated, loyal volunteers who have impacted student success in reading by building their confidence and providing them with the extra attention they need to address their specific reading needs. The students have increased their appreciation of reading and their attitudes have changed. The partnership is a win-win relationship that the school hopes will continue indefinitely.
