Sharpstown High School hosts post-Harvey community clean up event

On Thursday September 7, 2017, Sharpstown High School is organizing Sharpstown HS Cares Harvey Restoration and Clean Up event where faculty, students, alumni, and community members will go out into the Sharpstown and surrounding communities and assist with clean-up efforts. Tasks will include flood damage clean up, household chores, debris and tree clearing, yard clean up, and any other service required by the community. Sharpstown HS Cares Harvey Restoration and Clean Up event will help clean up the homes surrounding Sharpstown High School, Sugar Grove Academy, and Bonham Elementary, also including apartments and homes in the surrounding area.  

HISD Board Member Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca and Houston District J Councilman Mike Laster will be in attendance along with members of the Sharpstown Civic Association, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and Sugar Grove Academy Principal Dr. Eric Tingle and his faculty and staff.   Sharpstown High School clubs and organizations will also come together to help the community with Post-Harvey clean up. Some of the Sharpstown High School clubs and organizations include National Honor Society, Student Council, International Thespian Society, Iconoclast, Sharpstown Band, Sharpstown Athletic teams like Cross-Country, Football, Volleyball, and Basketball.

Sharpstown HS Cares Harvey Restoration and Clean Up event will begin at 8am in the Sharpstown High School Cafeteria. Volunteers will check-in and enjoy breakfast provided by Chick-Fil-A. Teams will work in the community beginning at 9am and return to campus at 1pm for lunch provided by Russo’s New York Pizzeria. Sponsors for this event include Chick-Fil-A, Russo’s New York Pizzeria –Meyerland. Community partners include Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
