2019-20 Sprint Foundation Free Hot Spot Donation
During the 2018-19 school year, the Sprint Foundation provided the district with a donation to provide free internet access to high school students (grades 9-12) who did not have high-speed internet at home. For the upcoming school year, the district will continue our partnership with the Sprint 1 Million Project to provide internet hotspots to eligible high school students enrolled in a PowerUp campus. Eligibility for the donation will be determined through student survey responses indicating no internet access at home. The survey is available in English and Spanish.
Students who are eligible to receive the donation will be notified by the district and provided with additional details during the fall 2019 semester. Parents and students are not financially responsible for the donation. Eligible students will keep the mobile hotspot throughout their high school career (four years) at no cost to the families. To identify those students in need, during laptop distribution process, they will be prompted to complete an eligibility survey. The survey window will be open from August 27th through September 27th. The eligibility survey can be found here.
The district will begin distributing the hotspots to eligible students during the fall 2019 semester. During the deployment and activation, students will be provided with details on using the hotspot and information about the Sprint Foundation. Building specific information, including timeline for distribution will be emailed to campus administrators prior to distribution.
As a reminder, parents and students are not financially responsible for the donation. Students will be responsible for the appropriate use and security of the hotspot device. Eligible students will keep the mobile hotspot throughout their high school career (four years) at no cost to the families.
