After a successful career working in Corporate America, specifically in the Oil and Gas Industry—Ms. Katie Howell enrolled in the Houston Independent School District Alternative Certification Program in early 2018. For the 2018-2019 school year, Ms. Howell was hired as an Intern Teacher at West Briar Middle School where she taught 7th Grade English Language Arts. During the 2019-2020 school year, Ms. Howell taught 7th Grade Reading and earned her certification in Special Education. For the 2020-2021 school year, Ms. Howell earned her certification as a Dyslexia Intervention Specialist and taught 6th – 8th grade Reading Intervention and Dyslexia classes. After three years of highly successful teaching at West Briar Middle School—Ms. Howell was promoted to Teacher Specialist at Madison High School for the 2021-2022 school year.

            Ms. Howell credits the skills and resources acquired during her Houston ISD ACP Internship for her continued growth, and success in the classroom and as an educational leader. Ms. Howell earned Beginning Teacher of the (2018-2019), Teacher of the Year (2019-2020), and was nominated for Teacher of the Year (2020-2021). Ms. Howell is a proud graduate of the University of Houston-Downtown, and most recently earned her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with Principal Certification from the University of St. Thomas-Houston in the Fall of 2021.
