How is Section 504 mandated?

FACTS - Section 504 is a federal law designed to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities in programs and activities that receive Federal financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Education. It's governed by the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) because it is to eliminate discrimination on the basis of disability against students with disabilities. Therefore, Section 504 does NOT focus on a learning disability 'ONLY'.

Section 504 covers individuals from the womb to the tomb. A student is able to carry their Section 504 plan past their educational career and into the workforce.
