Dr. Kenneth D. Davis, - Assistant Superintendent of Equity & Outreach
Dr. Davis is the Assistant Superintendent of Equity and Outreach. He is a decorated veteran school administrator with 28 years of experience in Education; eight of them in HISD. Dr. Davis most recently served as principal of Jack Yates High School. Prior to that, Dr. Davis served as a School Support Officer for middle schools in HISD. He also led Dowling (now Lawson) Middle School, HISD’s largest Apollo middle school. Davis came to the district eight years ago from Lamar Consolidated ISD, where he received the National Distinguished Principal Award in 2009. He has also been recognized as a Principal of the Year by Region 4 and was named Teacher of the Year for the Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators during his tenure in Alief ISD.
Dr. Davis credits his long-lasting career in education to building relationships, honoring education for all students, growing and developing teachers, and working to build strong instructional and visionary leaders. He works countless hours teaching at the University of Houston to guide instructional leaders and at the Houston Community College to build reading skills for students that struggle. He speaks and presents to future leaders across the city and has worked with organizations to build and support future administrators through Columbia University, Birmingham City Schools, and mentors current principals, deans, assistant principals, instructional specialists, and teachers.
Dr. Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in Child Development (K-8) from Rockford College (Illinois), and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of St. Thomas (Texas) and a doctorate in education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University (Texas).
