The 12 performances featured in this event were the culmination of instruction and classwork completed by dance students at seven HISD elementary schools during the 2017-18 school year. Performances included various dance styles, including jazz, contemporary, tap, lyrical and hip-hop.
The festival’s purpose is to give students who might not dance often in public a chance to do so, and to provide constructive feedback to elementary students and their teachers.
A panel of middle school dance teachers: Valerie Nesby, Black MS, Lori Bujung, Marshall MS, and Chadwick Peters, Meyerland MPVA, judged each performance and subsequently provided elementary dance students and their teachers with an assessment to improve their choreography and their dance programs, respectively.
Over 140 dance students from Gregory-Lincoln Education Center, Kate Bell, Burbank, Codwell, Roberts, Longfellow and Poe elementary schools wrapped up the festival in an altogether dance on “Can’t Stop the Feeling” song.
