Welcome Principal Niggli

Introducing Mr. Michael Niggli
Michael Niggli is the new principal for Bellaire High School. Mr. Niggli joined Team HISD in 1997 as an English teacher at Stephen F. Austin High School, where he also coached boys’ basketball and was named Teacher of the Year in 1997-98. In 2005 he joined the team at Reagan High School, now know as Heights High School. There, Niggli helped start a debate team that would go on to compete at the National Championships in Chicago and was the English Department Chair of an English Language Arts team that regularly earned TEA exemplary ratings. In 2012 Niggli earned his M.A. in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University, and from 2012-2018 he served at Sam Houston Math, Science and Technology Center as an Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, and Associate Principal, helping move the school out of “improvement required” status. Niggli also started the in-house alternative center known as the SHAC, which became a district model for in-house alternative centers through its multi-tiered approach to academic and social-and-emotional student supports. In 2018, Niggli was named Principal of Stephen P. Waltrip High School. In his first year at Waltrip, the school improved by 10 TEA accountability points – the most of any comprehensive high school in HISD that year. In his free time, Niggli enjoys special moments with his wife and two children at local family events or down on the Texas coast.
