Weekly Updates - October 7th, 2019

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I want to start this update by saying, thank you for all you do.  I also thank you for your continued support.  I really value each one of you and really appreciate our parent volunteers for decorating our school with all of the flags, paper cutouts, and the bios of influential people – I have received many compliments about our main hallway; and I say all of that recognition goes to our volunteers!  On behalf of the teachers and staff, I also want to thank you for the teacher appreciation lunch.  Everyone I spoke to enjoyed the large variety of delicious food and desserts.  I had so many plates that I had to run a few extra miles this weekend to burn off the tasty calories!

A few quick updates for this week:

GT testing:  We are sending GT application form in the Tuesday folder.  The deadline is December 6th.  If you have any questions regarding GT application, please email Ms. Lin at ylin1@houstonisd.org

Parent-led club visitors:  At this time, we only allow the club sponsor(s) and coach(es) to the classroom.  All parents (visitors) will have to wait outside the building for club dismissal.

Magnet tour:  We had our first magnet tour last Thursday.  We began the tour with a 30-min presentation, followed by a 30-min campus tour.  It went very well.  We had about 20 people joined us for the tour, and they were all very impressed by our program and students.

Outdoor lunch area:  We are pouring concrete on Monday.  We couldn’t do it last Friday because it rained the day before.  It will take a few days for the concrete to settle for the next phase of the project.  The construction should be fully completed by the end of this week.

Chinese High Frequency Word Test (HFW): We are giving three Chinese HFW tests this year.  The first testing window is 10/28/19 to 11/8/19.  The first test will cover about 30 high frequency words.  I am still in the process of ironing out the details with the teachers.

Fall Holiday:  This Wednesday, 10/9/19, is Fall Holiday.  It is a student holiday, so there will be no school this Wednesday, October 9th.

Hispanic Heritage Performance:  This week we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by inviting a guest speaker to our campus.  Our guest speaker will be here on Friday, 10/11/19, to speak with the students about the importance of Hispanic Heritage from 8:15 to 8:35 AM.

Fall Festival:  The Fall Festival is next Friday, 10/11/19, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and I want to personally invite you to join us on this day.  Please come enjoy the talent show (MIMS Got Talent), bid on the silent auction items, and/or purchase “sociables.”  This is a wonderful event for all families and an important fund-raising night for our school.  We look forward to each of you joining us for the Fall Festival family event!

MIMS Got Talent rehearsal:  We are rehearsing on Monday, 10/7/19, after school in the gym.

That’s it for this week’s update.  Thank you for supporting our school, our teachers, and being part of the MIMS community.
