Weekly Updates - June 3rd, 2020

Dear Parents,

I would like to begin by thanking you for your support this year.  Thank you for working with our teachers and staff.  I always say MIMS is such a great school because of you and all your support.

I would like to give a special thank you to a few parents.  These parents really went above and beyond for our students and community during the COVID-19 school closure.

Ms. Alice Truong and Ms. Judy Chang. They posted important information to our parent’s social media sites and assisted with the communication between the teachers and families.

Ms. Angie Joe and Ms. Claire Ma. They organized a surprise Zoom party for Ms. Russo and Ms. C Chen during Teacher Appreciation Week. Wendy Chung and Helen Ang from Ms. T Chen and Ms. Warren’s classes who helped them connect with other parents.

Ms. Irene Chang who helped Ms. Butler and Ms. Qiu learn about distant learning platform and helped them understand how their students can access the materials and resource from the teachers.

Ms. Margaret Pinkston, Ms. Amy Tang, Ms. Karen Chang, and Ms. Angie Chen for coordinating the 5th grade car parade and promotion gift for the students.

Also thank you to some of the 8th grade parents (I’m so sorry I don’t have the names, but I know many of you helped with the parade and gifts) – thank you all!

Mr. Mitch Shults and Mr. Patrick Long for offering their technology expertise and helping our staff transition to a virtual teaching space.

Ms. Jillian Simmons for donating your laptop to help an HISD family/student in need of technology.

And last, but not least, all the PTO members for staying on board for an additional length of time until we were able to elect next year’s board members.

One last thing, HISD is providing all elementary and middle school students free summer reading materials.  We just received our shipment a couple of days ago and we are ready to pass them out.  Next Monday, 6/8 and Tuesday, 6/9, between 8:30am to 1:00pm, you are welcome to stop by the school and pick them up.  We will leave the books on the table in the box labeled by grade level.  You simply drive up to the table to pick up the books and drive on.  Please wear PPE and maintain social distancing.  If you see another car/family at the table, then please keep a safe distance.  Our supply is limited, so please only pick up the books in your child’s grade level.

Thank you all again for a great year.  I will continue to send emails with updates and information during the summer.  Until then, I hope everyone is safe and enjoys a relaxing summer.

Chung Ying, Principal
