Weekly Updates - September 11th, 2020

Dear Parents,

We survived the first week of school!  I want to thank you for your patience and support.  The first week wasn’t perfect, but we had a lot done, and most importantly the majority of the students came back!  That is a huge relief.  Below are some updates for this week.

  1. Middle school parents, Ms. Wei is taking a brief leave to take care of personal business.  She is fine and we are expecting her return in October.
  2. HISD connect parent portal.  In the coming days, your child’s teacher will reach out to you about your parent portal’s access ID and password.  You will need that information to set up your parent portal.  Once you received that information, please use the attached instruction to set up your account.  parent portal instruction.PNG
  3. Grade weighing:

During Open House Tuesday, you will hear from your child’s teachers that we are not weighting grades this year. This means that all graded assignments will contribute equally to the calculation of your child’s grade. The main reason for this is our move to 6-week grading cycles. In these shorter cycles, we feel that weighting could create unfair situations. For example, one test grade is given the whole 6 weeks and it counts as 40% of your grade. We want to avoid one or two assignments determining a student’s grade in a course. We understand that this is different from normal years, but we think it’s the best decision for students and families. Weighting of grade will likely return for the 2021-22 school year.
