Remote Learning Week 4

Posted by Lucara Stewart on 4/21/2020

This week, students will learn about Climate Change- currently the most important environmental issue facing our planet. It is very fitting that we have this lesson as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd. It is hoped that students will take some time to really think about their lifestyle and daily activities, how these impact the planet, and what positive things they can do to be part of the solution.

Students will do the following:

  • watch two short videos on Climate Change to understand the issue;
  • complete the on-line Carbon Emissions Calculator and the Google Doc that goes with it;
  • get some inspiration from watching a video of Greta Thunberg, Person of the Year for 2019; and
  • create a 2-minute Flipgrid video on their “carbon footprint” and strategies on how to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions.

Students will also have optional hands-on and enrichment activities that will count as extra credit. These will give students an opportunity to:

  • see some cool and simple experiments on climate change; and
  • navigate some websites dedicated to Earth Day 2020.

An overview of the lesson, the assignments, and the links to Teams Meetings can all be found on Google Classroom for Science.
