Congratulations to Ms. Lauren Baird at The Energy Institute!
Please join CTE Department in congratulating the students at Energy Institute High School and their teacher, Lauren Baird, for being one of 13 schools nationally to receive a 2021 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam grant from the Lemelson-MIT Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Energy Institute High School is located in Houston, Texas.
The InvenTeams grants initiative offers high school students a rewarding hands-on experience that engages them in the process of invention. Students work in teams to develop an invention that solves a real-world problem they have identified. The InvenTeam uses STEM skills to build a prototype of their invention that will be presented to community members at a virtual Mid-Grant Technical Review next week on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. CT. The final prototype will be showcased at a virtual celebration in June called EurekaFest™.
InvenTeam participation fosters an inventive culture within the school and the broader community, often leading to ongoing change that continues long after the grant ends. To date, 12 U.S. patents have been issued for InvenTeam projects. Recognition and support from community members help to amplify the impact of the grant in the community.
Ways you can offer support to the InvenTeam include:
- Send a congratulatory message on Twitter to the @EnergyIHS #InvenTeam
- Send a congratulatory certificate to the team at their school address: 3501 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX 77004
- Register to attend their virtual Mid-Grant Technical Review on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. CT
- If you cannot attend the Mid-Grant Technical Review, send a pre-recorded message to the InvenTeam to be played during the event. Videos can be sent to our Communications Coordinator, Carolyn Blais at cblais@mit.edu
