Milby Alumnus Donald Driver Hosts Free Camp

NFL player and Dancing With the Stars champion gives back with 2-day football clinic

He may have a Super Bowl ring and a Mirror Ball Trophy from his recent win on Dancing With the Stars, but Donald Driver says one of his most coveted possessions is his education. “I always tell kids, even my own kids, let education be number one in your heart and let sports be secondary.”

Driver was recently in Houston to host a free, two-day football clinic at HISD’s Dyer Field for 500 lucky HISD middle and high school students. In addition to practice drills and conditioning, the Milby alumnus says he hosts the camp to teach students the value of hard work and respect -- respect not only for themselves, but for their parents and their teachers.

“I will always be the one to come back and say without Milby I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said the Green Bay Packers' wide receiver. The Houston community gave to me as a youth, and now I'm finally in a position to give back to them.”

In addition to hosting his annual football clinic, Donald Driver’s Foundation gives out annual college scholarships to students in Texas, Mississippi, and Wisconsin. He has also opened several computer labs in Houston to assist school-aged children with their homework.

“I want kids to know that even if I never made it to the NFL, I still would have my education to fall back on, and they need to have one as well.”
