Power outages across the city—some due to rolling blackouts ordered by the state’s electricity supplier—have left several Houston Independent School District campuses without power this morning.
HISD administrators are working on a plan to transfer children out of the affected schools if power is not restored soon, but no classes have been canceled.
This page will be updated as soon as new information becomes available, but parents may always call the Inclement Weather Hotline at 713-267-1704 for updates on any schedule changes that may occur.
- UPDATE 12:08 p.m.: Power has been restored at all HISD campuses, and all classes are proceeding as usual. Dismissal will be at the normal time this afternoon.
- UPDATE 11:43 a.m.: Power has been restored at Kashmere High School and all students have been bused from Key Middle School back to the high school. Dismissal will be at the normal time this afternoon.
- UPDATE 11:00 a.m.: Power has been restored at both Cook and Houston Gardens Elementary. Students will NOT BE MOVED.
- UPDATE 10:32 a.m.: Buses are being sent to Houston Gardens Elementary to transport the children to Kashmere Gardens Elementary. - UPDATE 10:20 a.m.: Pin Oak Middle School's power was restored before plans to transfer students to a nearby campus were implemented, so classes at Pin Oak are proceeding normally.
- Update 9:05 a.m.: Pin Oak Middle School has partial power, but not enough to generate heat, so classes are being moved across the street to Challenge Early College High School.
- Update 8:53 a.m.: Kashmere High School’s power loss may not be due to the rolling blackouts, so classes are being moved to Key Middle School.
