HISD’s Pershing Middle School is one of only 11 schools named as “Texas Schools to Watch” by the Texas Middle School Association. Pershing was selected for its academic excellence, responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents, and commitment to helping all students achieve at high levels.
“I am extremely excited that the Pershing community is being recognized for its efforts in ensuring that all of our students are lifelong learners ready for college, career, and citizenship,” said Principal Robin Lowe.
As part of the selection process, representatives from the Texas Middle School Association visited Pershing in January. Among other things, they interviewed students, parents, teachers, building and district administrators, and support staff members. They also visited classrooms during a school day and examined data and documentation.
“Pershing is an outstanding example of what will happen when a school and its community continually keeps its eyes on student achievement,” said HISD Chief Middle School Officer Dallas Dance. “The school has strong leadership, teachers who collaborate to improve curriculum and instruction, and an unwavering commitment to ensuring there is a focus on each child within its walls.”
