HISD students will have the opportunity to meet with admissions representatives from nearly 260 colleges and universities at the Houston National College Fair on Tuesday, April 19.
“As the process of applying to and selecting college becomes more and more competitive and complex, students and parents need all the help and information they can get,” HISD P-16 College and Career Readiness Department Manager June Giddings explained. “Attending a college fair is the best way to gather information about colleges and universities.”
The event, which is organized by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the George R. Brown Convention Center (1001 Avenida de las Americas, 77010). It will provide information about national and international schools, public and private universities, two-year and four-year programs, admissions requirements, and financial aid.
Students at all grade levels are encouraged to attend the evening session with their parents. Some HISD schools will also be providing transportation for eleventh-grade students who would like to attend the National College Fair during the school day. High school juniors will need to check with their college access coordinator to find out whether their school is offering bus transportation to the event.
All interested students can pre-register for the event online at www.gotomyncf.com. By registering in advance, students can print out a bar-coded confirmation letter to be used on-site at the fair as an electronic form of identification, eliminating the need to fill out information cards at each booth.
