On October 12, more than 150 HISD teachers and administrators, who have been designated as their schools’ “Effective Teachers Initiative Campus Representatives,” gathered at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center to learn how to keep teachers informed about the initiative this school year.
Under the Effective Teachers Initiative (ETI), the district is helping all teachers reach their full potential by giving them the support they need to be successful and recognizing those who excel in the classroom.
“ETI's focus and goals are exactly what HISD needs to help our teachers create an academic environment that will produce the life-long learners that we need for the 21st century,” said Jacqueline Devine, a first-grade teacher at Sinclair Elementary School and a newly designated ETI Campus Representative. “It’s a joy being part of the team.”
Devine and other ETI Campus Representatives will be responsible for distributing resources and providing updates to colleagues on their campuses. They’ll also help teachers and administrators locate resources on the new teacher appraisal and development system, which are currently available on the HISD HR portal under the Appraisals tab and on HISD’s new Professional Support & Development website.
“Overall, we’re finding a lot of growth happening on our campus because of the Effective Teachers Initiative,” said Marilyn Christensen, a teacher at Eliot Elementary School. “We really like the feedback we’re getting . . . I think everybody will be impressed with the immediate impact this is going to have.”
