    Samantha Woods has been selected as the new principal of Valley West Elementary School. She began her career in education at the neighboring school district, Alief ISD. Ms. Woods transitioned to Valley West Elementary in 2015 and has served as a science lab teacher, teacher specialist, and assistant principal.
     
    During her tenure, the school has earned four distinctions, including ELA/reading, math, science, and comparative closing the gaps. Ms. Woods has also been instrumental in implementing school-wide intervention systems for positive student behavior and continues to champion support for students in need of social and emotional assistance. 
     
    She holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix, Houston Campus, and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University.
