    VIRTUAL LEARNING

    What is the plan for the 2020-2021 school year?

    All students will begin the 2020-2021 school year virtually on September 8, 2020. Virtual instruction for all students will continue for six weeks through Friday, October 16, 2020. On Monday, October 19, 2020, face-to-face instruction for all students will begin. However, this date is subject to change based on COVID-19 conditions across the city of Houston and recommendations from local, state, and federal health officials.

     TIMELINE

    • September 8, 2020: First day of school (Virtual only)
    • October 19, 2020: Face-to-face instruction begins*
    • September 8 – January 29: First semester of remote learning for students/parents who choose online-only instruction. *Parents will have the option to choose remote instruction for the fall semester (through January 29) or the entire school year (through June 11).

    Starting on August 24, parents will receive a phone call from the district, asking them to indicate their choice for the 2020-2021 school year.  Parents will be asked to select one of the following options:

    • Option 1: On-Campus Learning
    • Option 2: Virtual Learning

    After each six-week grading period, parents may change their selection.

    HISD@H.O.M.E.

    On Monday, March 23, the district launched HISD @ H.O.M.E. (Home-based Online Mobile Education). 

    Through HISD @ H.O.M.E., online student-directed lessons will be provided by content and grade level. Students can access the digital curriculum available through HISD @ H.O.M.E. with computers, laptops, tablets, iPads and smartphones. Instruction will be available online as follows.

    Webinars can be requested to assist parents with accessing the digital instructional materials.

    If you have already applied and been accepted for the 2020-2021 school year, we are currently registering students:

    • Please contact Ana Narvaez at Ana.Narvaez@houstonisd.org for virtual registration procedures

    You may still apply for the 2020-2021 school year, we are currently accepting these applications:

    1. IF your child is NEW to HISD, you may apply for any transfer offered at Mark White Elementary
    2. Students enrolled in HISD last year, may apply for the following:
      1. Boundary Option-You apply for this transfer if you are zoned to Briargrove, Piney Point, Pilgrim, or Emerson
      2. Language of Instruction -You apply for this transfer if your zoned campus does not offer a Spanish Bilingual program in PreK-3rd grade OR if your zoned campus does not offer French Immersion for PreK-4th grade IF you child is has a home language of French.
    3. Pre-K Enrollment is no longer being done through the online application system.  Please contact Ana Narvaez for Pre-K registration information at Ana.Narvaez@houstonisd.org
